How to Get a DZ License

What is a D Drivers License?

When you get your Class D Drivers License, you can drive a motor vehicle exceeding 11,000 kilograms (24,000 lb) gross weight or any combination of motor vehicle exceeding a total gross weight of 11,000 kilograms (24,000 lb) and towed vehicle not exceeding a total gross weight of 4,600 kilograms (10,000 lb).

Requirements to get a DZ License

In order to apply for a Class D licence, you need to:

be at least 18 years of age
have a valid Ontario licence other than G1, G2, M, M1 or M2
pass an vision test
submit a medical report
pass a knowledge test about operating large trucks
pass a road test using a vehicle that meets the requirements for a Class D

Jobs you can get with a DZ License

Once you obtain your DZ License, there are various driving jobs that you can then apply for including:

dump trucks
straight trucks
cement trucks
garbage trucks

If you are interested in driving any truck/ tractor trailer combination, consider getting your full Class AZ (air brake endorsement) truck licence.
